About Mellivora Lodge

Mellivora Lodge is an 8 sleeper self-catering thatch house in Marloth Park, South Africa. You will experience a true bush experience with many animal visitors on your doorstep. It is a 300m walk to the crocodile river, the Kruger National Park border fence, where you can look over the beautiful Crocodile River and it's many sightings of animals. It is an ideal home base to explore the Kruger National Park, as it is only a 10-minute drive into the Kruger Park entering through Crocodile Bridge Gate.

Mellivora Lodge is named after Mellivora capensis which is the Latin name for the honey badger. A nocturnal mammal found in Africa, and in SA it is also known as the Ratel. They are mainly carnivorous animals eating snakes, birds, rodents, frogs, they have also been known to eat fruits and bulbs. Honey badgers also attack beehives as they eat the bee larvae and the honey.

They tend to be solitary animals and are known to be aggressive when they are attacked. They are ferociously protective of their young. A very rare sighting within South Africa.
